Your Furnishings with Drop Pulls
Cabinet hardware is essential for your cabinets to function properly. A good pull can help your doors and drawers open and close by giving you a place to easily slip your hand and grip. But cabinet hardware can do more than just be functional; the right style of hardware can also enhance the look of the cabinet or furniture piece, and the room as a whole.
One of the more traditional, formal, and old fashioned styles of cabinet hardware is the drop pull. Drop pulls have a handle like a standard pull, but rather than standing out against the door or drawer, it lies flush when not in use. The ends of the pull fit through an escutcheon that allows it to move upward so you can grab it to open your cabinet. When you release the drop pull, it returns to its resting position against the cabinet or against a back plate.
Drop pulls come in a few different styles. Many drop pulls have either large escutcheons or a back plate behind the pull. This makes drop pulls a nice option for retrofitting different cabinets; if you can’t find a pull that matches your current drillings, the back plate or the escutcheons can cover the old holes so you don’t need to fill them.
The most traditional form of drop pull is the bail pull, which connects the handle on either end to an escutcheon. This is the most formal looking drop pull available. For more modern looks, pendants are available, which extend from a single drilling. The pull itself could be a simple handle, or a square, contemporary “ring”.
A third option for drop pulls is the ring pull, which is also a single drilling, but with a loop or ring to hold. This is a nice option for more transitional settings.
If you want a more decorative and unusual style of cabinet hardware for your home, consider using some drop pulls.
