2015 Kitchen Designs

Jul 8th 2015

What is it about the new year that brings out the interior designer in all of us? What drives the absolute desire to re-imagine our space as a reflection of ourselves and our place in the world? The reasons as to "why" we want to redecorate is as diverse, and unique, as each of us. "What" rooms we select to make-over typically favor the kitchen and the bathrooms. The "how" of these projects are nearly always impacted by trends. This year is no different, in terms of why and what, but how takes on a whole new meaning.

In 2015, in the kitchen transitional and modern elements will be favored over the coastal and traditional designs used last year. This shift toward the modern is done using minimal lines, texture, finishes and color. While blue -- in all its shades-- remains popular it will be joined by every possible hue of gray, black, jewel tones and tribal colors.Touchable textures, largely crafted from eco-friendly materials, will also be popular. Look for marble, granite, stone, and wood to be used on floors, cabinets and counters. A delightful surprise is textured treatments applied to the and the long neglected ceiling. Wallpaper, in either themed or repetitive, geometric patterns, is also a staple. Accessories tie many of these trends together by combining color, texture and primal prints.

Cabinets and furniture also make a move towards the transitional and modern. Shaker inspired wood furniture mixed with industrial pieces is showcased as is super modern metal pieces used sparingly. Airy, open shelves combined with minimal cabinetry is being featured. Substantial islands with legs, or highly defined shapes, finished with luxe, mixed metal hardware or custom knobs, serve as important focal points.
