Designing with a Spanish Theme
Jul 6th 2015

2015 interior design is all about color, global accent pieces, natural woods and eco friendly materials. As you plan for your Spring DIY projects you may wish to incorporate a bit of Latin American flavor into your floor plan. Whether you are doing one room or many below are simple tips to make your casa caliente!
Colorful walls - Add flare by color blocking a wall using a vibrant accent color. In smaller rooms use tile, bits of glass or murals below the mid point -- combined with the top portion of the wall in a neutral shade -- to anchor the eye down and create the illusion of more space.
Fireplaces - Even if your space does not have a fireplace you can easily buy and install a free standing unit at Home Depot or other specialty store. Install the fireplace as a first or second focal point and build a warm and cozy room around it. This is a wonderful element for redoing outdoor spaces.
Arches -If your dwelling has curved doorways add colorful tile or painted design around the perimeter of the arch. Balance this festive flair against a neutral wall for maximum impact.
Furniture - Major pieces made of wood really pull together a Spanish theme. Incorporate family sized dining tables and buffets in kitchens and dining rooms. Upholstered pieces should be covered in neutral fabrics to keep the feeling of the room inviting but light.
Accents - Pillows, rugs, throw blankets, earthen jars, metal lighting fixtures, cabinet knobs and pulls are all great ways to add color and texture. Eco friendly fabrics in bold shades of red, blue, yellow, gold and green will bring you rooms to life and bring that perfect finishing flare to your design.
No matter which trend appeals Latin American inspired design is an easy and natural fit for almost any home.
