Shut Your Doors Properly with Cabinet Latches

When your cabinet doors aren’t shutting properly, it can bring down the look of the entire space. Cabinets in older homes may eventually warp slightly, remaining open even when the door has been shut. In these cases, sometimes the thing to do is to latch the cabinet when it’s shut to hold the door in place.

Latches act like small door knobs; they catch and hold the cabinet door in place until you turn or maneuver the latch to open it again. In many cases latches can also work as the knob or pull on the door, giving the entire room an updated style.

Cabinet latches have their own style that works well with older slab-style doors, and in Country, Rustic, and Farmhouse style kitchens. The latches themselves can take on several different styles and functions as well, including ice box latches that have a small handle you lift, and cupboard-style latches that operate with a small knob you turn to release the latch from the frame.

Because latches are often so prominent, sitting on the corner of the cabinet and the frame itself, you can find a variety of different finishes and sizes as well as styles. This enables you to match any additional hardware on the cabinets such as hinges or pulls, while making the cabinets more functional in general.

Latches can also work in tandem with magnetic or roller catches to help keep your doors shut. So if your cabinets aren’t hanging the way that they should, improve both their function and their style by adding some latches to the frames.
