In 2015, a major interior design trend is the bathroom being treated as an extension of the entire home. No expense or luxe material is being spared, and frankly, the results are pants dropping. Showers & Bathtubs - Eco-friendly and sustainability make their first entrance here as a very important trend. Large, over-sized showers replete with water saving faucets and specialty shower heads act as a major focal point around which the rest of the space is designed. Bathtubs, if not eliminated, are free - standing and serve as an amenity.
Sinks & Vanities - The double sink is king and vanities are queen. Vanities are open, airy and treated as furniture rather than storage.
Textures & Finishes - Our good friend sustainability makes its second strong statement here. Natural elements are everywhere. Stone, wood, marble, tile and even living walls made of plants are focal points or room themes. Geometric tile on floors and and wall tiles are the 'go to' solution especially when the bathroom lacks an organic, central, focal point. In more modern designed rooms sleek black tiles are being used to wrap the entire space.
Extend Spaces & Furniture- as mentioned; the decor of the entire house repeating in the bathroom is de rigueur in 2015. One way to get this look is carrying over color and accessories. The other involves incorporating couches, chairs and ottomans into the space.
