This Years Design Trends

Jul 8th 2015

In December the leading interior design publications ran a plethora of articles about 2015 trends. The thing about trends is they are tricky and opinions vary. After reading several articles you will notice different opinions regarding what is hot, and what is not, in the coming year. However, some design elements did seem to have universal appeal.

What is clear is that the times they are a changing. To help you get a jump start on your projects, during the month of January, we will be sharing a series of blogs about interior design trends. In the upcoming weeks will discuss bathroom and kitchen design in greater detail. Today, we will look at overall trends for 2015.

1.) Wall Finishes: The walls have it in 2015. Look for wallpaper, wallpaper and more wallpaper.

2.) Color Palates: Blue, especially navy, carries over from 2014 but it will be rivaled by the introduction of all shades of gray, jewel tones and vibrant, primal colors.

3.) Ceiling treatments: Gaze towards the heavens and look for murals, tin ceilings, tray ceilings and other artistic and architectural elements for this previously neglected space.

4.) Contemporary and Transitional Furnishings: Coastal and traditional design will be replaced with contemporary and transitional pieces in honey or other lighter wood finishes.

5.) Accessories: A preference for texture and color is expected to reach beyond walls. Rugs, pillows and counter tops will incorporate eco-friendly fabrics, and materials, in bold colors. Cowhide and tribal patterns will be prevalent.

6.) Minimal Cabinets finished with statement hardware: Perhaps the biggest departure from 2014 is the introduction of large, furniture inspired cabinets in dark, or bold colors, along with a reduction in the total number of cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom. This look is complimented, and completed, with the inclusion of unique knobs or pulls in mixed metals.
